About Dr John Viney, Founder and CEO

“I’ve spent the last 19 years perfecting the art and science of coaching Founders and CEOs. My mission is to make leadership look easy. ‘Easy’ is when a CEO can lead with clear, reasoned thought and communicate with clarity, knowledge, & assertion, inspiring those they lead.”
Part 1:
From apprenticeship to leadership
Part 1:
It started back in 1999, when I (John Viney) joined the Army and trained at Sandhurst. That’s where I first saw leadership in its purest form. I was inspired by the environment and the example set by those who came before me. But it was my soldiers who taught me the most, and the humility that I knew nothing. The journey was gruelling: I made mistakes. I misread people and social politics. I read widely, learned from others, and paid close attention to those around me who performed at the highest level.
I stuck at it and started building a reputation for high standards, drive, and energy. Excellence, I learned, is insight shaped through challenge and reflection.
Part 2:
From combat environments to commercial reality
Part 2:
After leaving the military, I founded a business with a close friend. The context changed, but the learning continued. We moved quickly to understand - markets, customers, and what actually creates value. We spotted gaps, made early calls, and adapted as we went. The work took me across countries, cultures, and business models, each with its own complexity. We made mistakes, corrected course, and I learned how authenticity shapes trust.
Over time, I was able to bring clarity, knowledge, and integrity to a profession which had a reputation for lacking all three.
Part 3:
Scale, systems, and decision velocity
Part 3:
Between 2010 and 2020, the business entered a sustained scale phase, expanding operations to 36 countries.
Growth brought complexity. Complexity demanded systems, automation, and decision discipline. Values had to be explicit. Communication had to be clear. Decisions had to move quickly.
The business earned significant professional recognition along the way, including Chartered status in the UK and independent fiduciary certification across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. It was recognised twice as one of the UK’s fastest-growing companies by KPMG and the Sunday Times.
At scale, growth became less about push-leadership and more about pull-leadership — the art of building teams who can align strategically, think clearly, execute effectively.
Part 4:
Building beyond the individual
Part 4:
In the first 12 months of Leaderverse, over 40 clients joined. Sustaining impact meant building a system, not a personality-led practice.
We deliberately assembled a small panel of senior leaders and coaches we trusted, respected, and would take advice from ourselves. Together, they now work alongside clients as the Leaderverse™ Coaching Panel, extending impact beyond any one individual while maintaining discretion, depth, and quality.
Part 5:
Research, rigor, and mastery
Part 5:
Recognition and awards were never the objective. Depth was.
I (Dr John Viney) achieved a PhD in Leadership and Business Transformation, grounded in behavioural and personality psychology, alongside advanced coaching qualifications. This knowledge and applied experience underpins the GrowMaster Programme coaching for CEOs, and the broader Leaderverse™ approach.
Today, Leaderverse™ works one-to-one coaching CEOs across PE and VC-backed portfolios, finance, energy, construction, marketing, architecture, defence, education, and more. The work is discreet, high-trust, and outcome-focused, helping leaders scale businesses into nine-figure territory and beyond, while building clarity, optionality, and personal freedom. Seeing clearer judgment translate into meaningful, sustained growth remains the core of our work.
